Been waiting a while to get these out in the open. Here they are now!
"Over a year and a half after the release of Somfay's second album "A Catch in the Voice" released on Pheek's label Archipel Musique comes the collaborative self-released remix EP "Caught in the Voice" which features celestial reproductions from Allez-Allez, Ryan Davis and Russian Linesman.
Sam Willis of Allez-Allez turns in a driving remix of 'Amo Alucinor' which spins the original into a heavy web of sultry melodic silk surrounded by warm smoke which drifts smoothly through arching towers of rolling rhythms. Ryan Davis turns in two remixes; first his remix of of 'Elegiac Station' which takes the ambient album opener and converts it into a syncopated and monolithic slab of early morning light breaching through the clouds, casting hypnotic spells over the original and making sure its mesmeric euphoria is embroidered upon one's psyche. Ryan's second remix, of 'Hypnagogii', is a more delicate affair with its bright and shimmering melodies woven expertly into Davis's rhythmic sunrise/sunset tapestries where guitars dangle like molten glass off of the rods of early morning skies painted with the warmest hues.
Russian Linesman aka Jamie Boyer turns in three remixes, all of which are variations on 'Hypnagogii'. His first remix is a heavily dub influenced piece which billows with sunlit smoke and the perfumes of a certain green form of plant life. A brilliantly hazy euphoria permeates the environment of this version painting perfect drowsy ending smiles on all that its vibration touches. Jamie's noise version of the remix is an ultra bright and dusty blizzard of melody which rises and slumbers into fuzzy peaks and smoothed and savoury valleys. Lastly but certainly not least is his krautrock/shoegaze influenced version which is perhaps the most intense and sky scraping of all the remixes featured on the EP with its heavenly distorted peaks and constant all out enveloping bliss.
Where Somfay's originals were as the most vivid of lucid dreams, who's electric aftertaste permeates for hours after waking, this collection of remix is akin to waking dreams, daydreams and beautified daymares, of the dreams induced by the originals. We sleepwalk forever with our eyes and ears open, the solar core's radiant mycelium tainting our blood with light."
